Recruiting hotel staff: A new recruitment solution for hotels in Switzerland

Finding hotel staff has become one of the key challenges in day-to-day operations for many businesses in Switzerland and across the German-speaking world. Vacancies at reception, in service, housekeeping or the kitchen have a direct impact on operations, guest satisfaction and financial stability. At the same time, simply advertising vacancies is no longer enough. Anyone looking to recruit hotel staff needs a process that integrates selection, language, integration and practical support.  This is precisely where a new partnership between talents4.eu and IMConsulting from Brunnen in Switzerland comes in. Together, the partners offer a structured model for recruiting staff for hotels and catering businesses, initially with a focus on Switzerland.

Why finding hotel staff is becoming increasingly difficult

The pressure on the hospitality industry is very real. According to DEHOGA, in November 2025 there were around 1,097,200 employees subject to social insurance contributions working in the hospitality sector in Germany. At the same time, 17,667 vacancies were still reported to the Federal Employment Agency in January 2026. This shows that the sector remains labour-intensive, and the demand for suitable staff remains high. (dehoga-bundesverband.de)

Furthermore, the bottleneck lies not only in the number of applications, but above all in the fit. In its skilled labour shortage analysis, the Federal Employment Agency describes how there are professions in which it is relatively difficult to fill advertised vacancies. For hotels, this means in practice that not every application matches the job profile, and not every hire proves stable in the long term. Anyone looking to recruit hotel staff must therefore place greater emphasis on the quality of selection, clarity of expectations and support. (Statistics from the Federal Employment Agency)

Hotel staff for Switzerland: recruitment doesn’t end with the offer

In Switzerland in particular, there is an additional factor at play. HotellerieSuisse points out that the lack of staff accommodation in tourist communities further exacerbates the shortage of skilled workers. Even if hotels find suitable candidates, the appointment may fail because no suitable accommodation is available locally. Recruitment must therefore be thought through further: not just up to the employment contract, but right through to the candidate’s actual arrival at the workplace and in their new environment. (Hotellerie Suisse) This is precisely where the new partnership between talents4.eu and IMConsulting comes in. The service offering encompasses not only the recruitment of staff for hotels and catering establishments, but a comprehensive, modular process. This includes clarifying requirements, targeted marketing, screening and pre-selection, selection procedures, language and integration courses, help with finding accommodation, support with bureaucratic matters, and guidance for both employees and employers. Interpreters are available at every stage of the project.

How hotels can find hotel staff more effectively with a structured process

For hotel businesses, this approach is particularly relevant because it combines operational relief with improved planning. The first step is to clarify requirements precisely: which position needs filling, what qualifications are required, and what working conditions does the business offer? Only once these questions have been clearly answered can recruitment truly function in a targeted manner. It is precisely this logic that underpins the concept of talents4.eu and IMConsulting.

Building on this, suitable candidates are approached in a targeted manner, followed by a structured pre-selection process. From comparable recruitment projects by talents4.eu, we know that the process relies on systematic screening, assessing motivation, interviews, the use of interpreters and accompanying language preparation. This is particularly important for hotels, as misunderstandings during recruitment often lead to candidates dropping out, dissatisfaction or high staff turnover later on.

Another key advantage lies in integration support. Anyone wishing to find and retain hotel staff in the long term must actively support new employees as they settle in. This includes language support, organisational assistance and practical help with issues such as accommodation, documents or everyday matters. It is precisely these elements that are an explicit part of the service offered by swiss-hospitality-recruiting. This sets the model apart from traditional recruitment agencies, which often conclude their involvement once the contract has been signed.

The concrete benefits for hotels

For decision-makers in hotels, such a recruitment approach brings several direct benefits. Firstly, internal workload is reduced because the job profile, candidate search, shortlisting and support are bundled into a coordinated process. Secondly, the likelihood of a good fit increases because requirements and expectations are communicated more clearly from the outset. Thirdly, the chances of team stability improve because onboarding is not left to chance. This is a significant difference, particularly in times of skills shortages. This is particularly relevant for hotels in Switzerland, as staff recruitment today is not merely a matter of recruitment but a strategic management task. Anyone seeking to find hotel staff needs reach, selection expertise and integration support. When additional factors such as staff accommodation or language barriers come into play, it becomes clear why a modular process is significantly more robust than a purely individual placement. (Hotellerie Suisse)

Finding hotel staff rather than just filling vacancies

The new partnership between talents4.eu and IMConsulting is therefore more than just another recruitment service. It responds to the reality of an industry in which hotels need to fill vacancies not only more quickly, but above all more sustainably. Anyone looking to find hotel staff today needs a clear process, from assessing requirements through selection to linguistic and practical integration. It is precisely this synergy that makes the new model attractive for hotels in Switzerland.

Student assistants conduct the ‘Einstiegsinstrument zur beruflichen Orientierung’ (Entry-Level Instrument ; ESI) for career orientation

As student assistants at  TALENTBRÜCKE, we look back on a season full of ESI days, during which we had the opportunity to support numerous students and help them take their first steps in their very own career orientation. The goal of the ESI is to explore students’ individual strengths together with them, so they can recognize and utilize these as resources for their future careers. At the start of the day, the students receive a Strengths Radar from the TALENTBRÜCKE, where they can record their newly discovered skills.

We begin the journey of discovering the students’ strengths with playful icebreakers and by clarifying expectations for the day—it is important to us to highlight that there is no right or wrong on this day. Everyone has ample opportunity to participate, and each person has a unique personality that should be given space and recognized on this day.

Personal diversity and curiosity take center stage on ESI Day

Most of the day is spent working on and solving two tasks that the students tackle in small groups. The first task involves helping plan an event; the second task is hands-on and allows for creativity and imagination in building a bridge. Both tasks are designed so that all students can participate in every step, according to their abilities and interests. For us, the students’ individuality serves as the catalyst for our own learning. Practical experiences are invaluable to us, as we come from the fields of psychology, teacher training, social work, and educational sciences. As student assistants, we can test and refine systematic behavioral observation, a skill in which we were trained by TALENTBRÜCKE prior to the start of the ESI.

In particular, we can engage with various group dynamics, which offer us the opportunity to grow through challenges in our interactions with the students. Additionally, we learn to apply presenting skills in flexible situations and to engage with the students by incorporating their input and feedback into every task.

At ESI, student assistants also gain a fresh perspective on career orientation

Although ESI follows a structured program, there’s always room for students to surprise us—and themselves—with spontaneous and creative ideas. Between activities and throughout the day, there are plenty of breaks that students spend together—mini football tournaments are especially popular, as are snowball fights during the colder months. At the end of the program, it is important to us that the students have gained a broader, lasting impression of themselves. The students take the Strengths Radar home with them, which can support in guiding them through the next steps of their career exploration. The strengths they discover are intended to give the students confidence and self-assurance. With the Strengths Radar, they can always rely on the fact that they possess numerous skills that they can apply in just as many diverse ways. Although we, as student assistants, only accompany the students for one day, they often reflect back to us that it is precisely this extracurricular setting that provides them with positive reinforcement.

In this way, we too recognize with each session that the ESI is a significant milestone in their personal development, and we realize that even our brief time working with the students has a significant impact on their self-image.

Apart from the professional skills we develop, the collegial relationships we build with one another are also—and especially—of particular importance. We learn to support one another in overcoming the daily challenges of the ESI. We adapt to new people with whom we spend very intense days that many former TALENTBRÜCKE employees fondly remember. For some of us, this season ends with the prospect of graduation; others will stay for another year—we would like to thank TALENTBRÜCKE for this educational and exciting time.

As an intern in international project management at TALENTBRÜCKE

By Maren Schmidt – What is it actually like to work as an intern in international project management? My first response would probably be: more varied, fast-paced and demanding than I ever expected.

Right from my first few days at TALENTBRÜCKE, it quickly became clear that nobody here just ‘stands on the sidelines’ for long. Instead, I was thrown straight into the application process for Erasmus+ projects. What initially seemed like a completely new field quickly turned into a real ‘learning by doing’ experience. It was particularly motivating to see that my own feedback and ideas weren’t simply collected, but were actually incorporated into real project applications.

As a project management intern, flexibility is essential

The first few weeks were intense – and that’s exactly what made them so exciting. Between researching Erasmus+ guidelines, studies and data sources, developing workshops, interviewing experts and dissemination, tasks sometimes changed every hour. We often worked on several projects simultaneously, meaning no two days were really alike. It was precisely this dynamic and the close teamwork that characterised the three-month internship.

Furthermore, my view of the EU and European cooperation has changed significantly. Behind Erasmus+ lie not only funding programmes, but above all committed people from a wide variety of fields, from teachers to entrepreneurs, who work together on innovative ideas and projects. Looking back, I not only learnt a great deal professionally during the internship, but above all I learnt to deal independently with complex challenges and uncertainties. Above all, however, I experienced just how exciting international project work can be when you are actively involved from the very start.

Anniversary: 20 years of potential analyses at TALENTBRÜCKE Cologne

For 20 years now, the employees at TALENTBRÜCKE have been supporting young people on their path to career orientation. What began in 2006 with the development and implementation of the first potential analyses – at that time still under various other names, such as competence check, competence assessment procedure or potential analysis – has now become an established part of the transition from school to work. Over the years, the procedures have been continuously refined and adapted to the requirements of a changing world of work.

Today, the potential analysis is called the ‘Einstiegsinstrument zur beruflichen Orientierung’ but its function has not changed. For many students, it represents the first conscious step towards their professional future. As part of the state initiative ‘Kein Abschluss ohne Anschluss – Übergang Schule-Beruf NRW’, young people in the 8th or 9th grade systematically examine their strengths, interests and abilities for the first time. The focus is on practical tasks and realistic situations that enable participants to actively test their skills and discover new perspectives.

Over the past two decades, TALENTBRÜCKE has already supported more than 200,000 school pupils in North Rhine-Westphalia with its programme. The programme is also well established in Cologne: here alone, more than 21,500 young people have taken part in a TALENTBRÜCKE potential analysis.

The resource-oriented approach is particularly important here. The TALENTBRÜCKE programme is not intended as a traditional aptitude test, but rather as an educational stimulus for self-reflection. The aim is to empower young people to become more aware of their own abilities and to motivate them to take the next steps in their career and study orientation.

We are very much looking forward to celebrating the 20th anniversary of potential analysis together with many wonderful people who have accompanied and helped shape this journey.

At the same time, we are also celebrating 15 years of TALENTBRÜCKE. TALENTBRÜCKE emerged from HRmatic GmbH and has since been dedicated to the transition from school to work. We would also like to mark this anniversary with all the people who have supported and shaped this development.

These anniversaries are not only an occasion to look back, but also to look ahead: together with schools, partner organisations and committed employees, TALENTBRÜCKE will continue to work to provide guidance to young people, highlight their talents and build bridges to their professional future.

PERSPEKTIVE: Network grows – and new projects in the pipeline

What does it take to turn prison time into real future time?

At the beginning of February, the PERSPEKTIVE consortium met for its fifth transnational project meeting in Viterbo (Italy) to explore this very question. The host was Italian project partner CPIA Giuseppe Foti, who welcomed participants from Greece, Iceland, Italy, Romania, Turkey and Germany to the Università degli Studi della Tuscia.

The focus was on further developing key project results for educational work in the prison system and expanding the European network of experts. The steady growth of the initiative was evident: while the project started in Düsseldorf in 2024 with around 20 participants, more than 40 experts gathered in Viterbo.

An important milestone is the PERSPEKTIVE handbook on experiential education in the prison system. More than 15 exercises have already been tested together, and over 50 practical methods have been collected for the handbook – a key project result is thus increasingly taking shape.

We are continuing our involvement in this area this year: we are currently involved in two new project proposals focusing on the prison system – the follow-up project to Sport4PrisonsS4P and a continuation of PERSPEKTIVE. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

MAPWISE ERASMUS+ Project: Career guidance that makes a difference

How can we really get young people excited about career guidance? What do they need to choose their dream job with confidence and knowledge? Can smart gamification actually make career guidance more exciting, rather than just adding „playful“ effects?

With these questions in mind, the partners of our Erasmus+ project MAPWISE met for a two-day transnational project meeting in Vilnius. Our common goal: to make career guidance more interactive, realistic and significantly more playful. To achieve this, we went directly to the most important target group, the students themselves. Together with four Lithuanian and four Slovenian students, we tested the first MAPWISE use case ideas. The young people tried out prototypes, played through different tour concepts and told us very openly what helps them, what confuses them and what really motivates them when they think about their professional future.

Career guidance is not a one-way street

A key finding was that students want companies to take them seriously, not as visitors „passing through,“ but as future colleagues on an equal footing. Genuine interest makes a big difference to them. In the project, we tested two types of MAPWISE tours:

On-campus tour – within a vocational or technical college [here at our partner VESK], through real workshops, departments and practical rooms. This made areas such as cooking, cosmetics, hospitality and catering tangible.

Vorführung eines Roboters im College in Vilnius im Rahmen einer MAPWISE Campus Tour

City-Tour – during which the young people visited real companies and institutions, including:

Career guidance only works with a large and diverse network.

At the same time, we worked with our partners in Vilnius to determine how we can win companies, schools and other organisations over to MAPWISE in the long term. The discussions yielded some important starting points: Relevant partners include companies offering dual training programmes, vocational and technical schools, municipal institutions and industry-specific networks (e.g. regional industry networks). Challenges include finding the „right“ contact persons, a lack of time and human resources, and concerns about having to maintain content on too many platforms at once. That is why MAPWISE attaches great importance to ensuring that companies and institutions with labour needs also benefit from added value:

  • Visibility among young people who are actively looking for training and job opportunities,
  • Greater awareness in the region,
  • A new, digital way to connect with potential young talent and local career guidance services.

Technically, we are working on making it as easy as possible to create company profiles, points of interest and tours, and thinking about using agents in the app that guide users through the process step by step. This ensures that MAPWISE does not become an additional burden for companies, but rather an attractive digital channel for career orientation and recruiting young talent.

  • niedrige Abbrecherquote, geringes Risiko

Educational professionals from Spain – relief for nurseries with talents4.eu

Even though childcare numbers have fallen slightly in some regions, there are still many vacancies and teams working at full capacity: Many nurseries are looking for solutions that are quick to implement – yet still sustainable. talents4.eu supports providers and institutions in recruiting qualified educational professionals in Spain and integrating them into Germany in a structured manner. This involves a comprehensive process: from candidate search and pre-selection to interviews and documents, to recognition issues, language preparation and arrival on site. The aim is to ensure that new colleagues do not just „start somehow“, but grow into everyday life at the nursery with realistic expectations, clear next steps and reliable support.

It is helpful to clarify three points in advance:

1. Which groups/time periods need to be covered?

2. What language level is required in everyday team work?

3. Who provides structured support for the induction of new employees?

This is exactly where talents4.eu comes in: we help to clearly define requirements, select suitable profiles and organise the start in such a way that your team is noticeably relieved – without additional „side projects“ for the management.

Why talents4.eu?

talents4.eu stands for „everything from a single source“ – with professional pre-selection, supported communication and a clear view of the practicalities of working in nurseries.

This includes, among other things:

  • Highly trained (university-educated), motivated professionals and long-term orientation
  • Interview support and translation of documents by professional interpreters
  • Certified language skills (telc B1/B2) plus job-related language preparation for educators
  • Complete recognition support and organisation
  • Support with finding accommodation
  • Support even beyond the probationary period
  • Low dropout rate, low risk

Shall we meet at the DKLK?

On 28 and 29 April 2026, talents4.eu will be represented at the Deutsche Kitaleitungskongress (DKLK) in Düsseldorf.

At our stand, we will talk to you about the advantages, typical stumbling blocks and success factors for successful integration – in the team, in everyday life and in communication with parents. On 28 April, we will also give a presentation: „Skilled workers from other European countries – obstacles and success factors for integration“.

GAMESONBOARD – ERASMUS+ Projekt: Onboarding neu gedacht

Launch of two new ERASMUS+ projects in December 2025 – A common goal

The GAMESONBOARD and InFUELencer projects are in line with European priorities: digital transformation, sustainability and inclusion. They demonstrate how innovative approaches can make vocational training in Europe fit for the future: practical, digital and sustainable.

TALENTBRÜCKE contributes its many years of experience in the qualitative improvement, systematisation and development of innovative solutions for vocational orientation in Germany and abroad. More than 20 international projects with over 50 partner organisations across Europe have already been successfully implemented.

GAMESONBOARD – ERASMUS+ project: Onboarding reimagined

The Erasmus+ project GAMESONBOARD, led by Interaktiv GmbH from Kerpen, is modernising the onboarding of international trainees. An AI-supported, gamified platform makes onboarding processes more structured, inclusive and interactive.

The use of adaptive AI, gamification and interactive storytelling creates a learning environment that strengthens intercultural skills, promotes professional competence and facilitates acclimatisation in the workplace. Pilot phases are planned in VET centres and companies throughout Europe, with feedback from these phases being incorporated directly into further development.

Open learning materials, practical tools for companies and educational institutions, and policy recommendations ensure that the platform has a long-term impact on vocational education and training.

InFUELencer – ERASMUS+ Project: Sustainability in the petrol station sector

The Erasmus+ project InFUELencer, led by the Technical University of Dresden (Chair of Sustainability Management and Business Environmental Economics), is dedicated to the green transformation of fuel retail. Together with European partners, a practical curriculum for VET trainers is being developed, supplemented by digital learning modules and an e-learning platform. In workshops, train-the-trainer formats and national pilot training courses, fuel retailers in Europe are given the knowledge and tools they need to successfully implement sustainable business models.

A successful start: Review of the first few months of the entry-level tool

Since 1 September, we have been supporting school students with their career orientation using the entry-level tool as part of the Kein Abschluss ohne Anschluss (KAoA) initiative.
By 18 December, around 5,200 school students will have been given the opportunity to get to know, experience and actively shape the new TALENTBRÜCKE concept. It is time for a brief review – and for a thoroughly positive assessment.

With the new conceptual orientation of the entry-level tool, we have deliberately focused on a stronger practical orientation, clear structures and an intensive examination of individual strengths. The feedback from the implementations to date clearly shows that this approach has paid off. The students were able to actively participate, test their skills and experience themselves in new roles. Many of them found the introductory tool not only informative, but also motivating, varied and practical – and above all, enjoyable.

The positive feedback from different perspectives is especially encouraging. Various stakeholders in the KAoA process – including representatives of municipal coordination bodies, schools and cooperation partners – visited our sessions and expressly praised the practical implementation of the concept. Particular emphasis was placed on the clear introduction to the topic of career orientation, the appreciative atmosphere and the opportunity for students to actively and reflectively engage with their strengths.

Our licensees also unanimously report very good experiences with the new procedure. They have noticed a high level of participation among students and confirm that the concept can be easily integrated into existing organisational processes. This feedback reinforces our belief that the entry-level tool is much more than a formal starting point in KAoA – rather, it provides an effective impetus for the further career orientation process.

The first few months have shown that a successful start provides orientation, boosts self-confidence and lays a solid foundation for all further steps in KAoA. We are delighted with the trust placed in us and are looking forward to the upcoming implementations with motivation – with the aim of continuing to enable as many students as possible to make a positive and sustainable start to their professional future.
